Lets take a look below and see why Wheaton is known as one of the coziest little cities in the Chicagoland area.
A Deeper look at the City of Wheaton
Nestled in the heart of the Western Suburbs, you will find the lovely of Wheaton. This quiet village has a small town feel but also is bursting with big city amenities. It was in this beautiful suburb of Chicago that my husband and I started our lives together.
We were drawn to this location by the serene, calm and friendly atmosphere but also the stellar schools were a big part of our decision to move here. Central Unified School District 200 ranks 79th out of 779 Illinois school districts according to schooldigger.com.
Wheaton North High school and Wheaton Warrenville South high school both place in the top 10% of Illinois high schools. In addition, Wheaton is a college town. In the center of the downtown area you will find Wheaton College. Ranked among the top liberal arts schools in the nation by Forbes, Money Magazine and Kiplingers, students receive a top-notch education at an affordable price.
Speaking of the downtown neighborhood, walking the streets of Wheaton is like taking a stroll through time. Many of the buildings were built in the early 1900’s using locally sourced lime stone. There dozens of local businesses along main street that have been serving the community for years. Here you will find quaint restaurants and coffee shops, as well as mom and pop clothing stores. Need more fun and excitement? Wheaton has that too. A quick trip down Naperville road will take you to Danada Square east and west shopping centers. These large outdoor malls have all the high-end and name brand shopping and restaurants you are looking for.
The city also has a bustling art scene. The DuPage Art League is a not-for-profit art school and gallery which aims is to promote and encourage the visual arts through classes, workshops, gallery exhibits, free public fine arts programs, exhibits by their students in numerous commercial and public buildings, and financial endowments to public institutions of arts education and scholarships to students. Want to catch a play? The Wheaton Drama community theatre is a volunteer acting group dedicated to providing high-quality, live theatre in the Chicago suburbs. With many new play and performances each years, you are sure to find something to suit your tastes.
Want to Get involved? Wheaton Drama is always looking for new individuals.
Their members come from all over the Chicago area, and have different backgrounds, careers, interests, opinions and talents, but all share a love of theatre. Many members are active in other community theatres, and others are professionally involved in area theatre. There are a few who have even performed professionally on Broadway and in London! Wheaton Drama is a place to do what you love, and have fun doing it. Learn new skills and meet new people.
Sharing a passion for theatre with the community and welcoming anyone who is interested to join. No experience is necessary, just the desire to be an integral part of live theatre! Every year an event is run call the children’s workshop. The goal is to educate the next generation of area talent in the Arts and offer a yearly scholarship to a high school senior who plans to major in Performing Arts. A special preview performance of every show is showcased exclusively for area Veteran, Senior, and Assisted Living facilities. Providing live entertainment and character performances at the Taste of Wheaton and the Fourth of July Parade is always a cherished event. Members take part in the holidays by dressing as Santa and Mrs. Claus at Christmas or the Easter Bunny at Easter time. As you can see, this troupe is very active within the community and part of a network of local community theatres who support each other.
